McMorris Rodgers: Americans are Better Off Now

House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) led this morning’s House Republican Leadership press conference to highlight the many ways the American people are Better Off Now.

Two years ago, we rolled out our Better Way agenda to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our country. As a result, America is stronger at home and abroad, with a booming economy, safer communities, and a stronger military.

The Chair’s Remarks:

For the last decade, we have been asking ‘where are the jobs?’ Today, it’s an entirely different story.

In 2010, the unemployment rate was at 9.9 percent. Just last month, it was at 4 percent. We are celebrating that 4 percent.

More people are coming off the sidelines and into the workforce, companies are coming home, and 3.7 million jobs have been created since President Trump was elected.

This is the comeback story that was made possible through the Better Way agenda, the foundation that was laid two years ago. And we’ve worked hard to deliver on those results. Today, Americans are Better Off Now.

We’ve updated It should be familiar to you because that was the platform we used two years ago to promote our agenda to the American people in 2016.

Republicans have kept our promises. People are optimistic again. They can buy a new house; they can start a family; they can expand their businesses. In this booming economy, Americans have hope and confidence again. That’s not the only reason why.

On, you can also see where Americans feel more safe and secure. We’ve launched a historic rebuilding of our military, raised pay for our troops, reformed the VA to better provide for our veterans.

We’ve made significant investments to combat the opioid crisis, end human trafficking, target dangerous criminals, and make schools safer.

This week, our work to deliver results continues — we’re delivering results, not rhetoric. The People’s House is doing its job to review and reauthorize our critical intelligence resources. We’re advancing more solutions for water development, and our nation’s fishermen — we’re giving them more flexibility.

Today, we have Congressman Barry Loudermilk from Georgia’s 11th District with us. He’s going to talk a little bit about families in his district that are better off today. I want to invite him up here, and encourage you to visit
