Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:
“This week is actually the fourth anniversary of the ‘Recovery Summer.’ I’d like to start today by talking about a family that has been on my mind a lot recently. They’re a husband and a wife, back home in Spokane, and they’re struggling to make ends meet. The husband lost his job after spending his entire life working for the modest life they have. And despite his aggressive search to find another job, he’s still unemployed. More than anything, he wants to return to work, to bring home a paycheck, and to support his family – but the state of this stagnant economy makes it nearly impossible right now. What upsets me most is that they’re not alone. In fact, right now, 6 in 10 Americans – more than half – are concerned that they or someone in their household might be out of work and looking for a job in the next 12 months.
“You know, here in DC, the partisan blame-game has become all too common. But it doesn’t solve anything. It doesn’t make it easier for a single mom to put her kids through school. It doesn’t make it easier for a college graduate to find her first job or pay off her student loans. And it doesn’t make it easier for those families in Spokane to pay their bills and make ends meet. So let’s make those things easier. Let’s focus on solutions that get people back to work, that help Americans find good-paying jobs, and that make their lives better. We’ve advanced dozens of pro-jobs solutions that will do just that. Now it’s time to come together and act on them.”
