From The Wall Street Journal’s Natalie Andrews: “On the interim coronavirus bill being negotiated now: Rep. @PramilaJayapal says she has ‘real concerns about giving away leverage now without getting some of the priorities that we need.’”
This has become a pattern for House Democrats:
– Majority Whip Jim Clyburn told his colleagues that coronavirus response legislation would give their party a “tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”
-Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the response to the coronavirus represents a “fascinating progressive moment”
-After failing to get her liberal wish list in Phase III of coronavirus response legislation, Speaker Pelosi said she wanted to pursue Phase IVbecause “we couldn’t get everything we wanted in the other bill, let’s begin to go down this path.”
Repeatedly, they’ve sought to use this generational crisis to enact their partisan policies.
Now, Rep. Jayapal is saying that more funding for the PPP – which is needed to save jobs and keep small businesses afloat – should be used as “leverage” so Democrats can pass the most controversial elements of their agenda. Rahm Emanuel would be proud.
