GOP Women Talk with BlogHer

House Republican Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Representative Kristi Noem (R-SD), and Representative Mimi Walters (R-CA) joined in a BlogHer/SheKnows Media  town hall Q/A to discuss the issues that women all across this country face.  Topics ranged from the bold, pro-growth agenda Republicans in the People’s House are building for a more confident America to what it’s like being a mom while serving in the House of Representatives. Following are highlights from today’s event.

“…We need to balance the budget. We need to start looking at the unfunded liabilities that we have committed to.  We need to take those steps now so that we have opportunities moving forward for everyone in this country.”

“At first I was hesitant to consider myself a trailblazer, but I am starting to embrace the fact that we are all trailblazers in these roles and we need more women to get involved in politics.”

-Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers

“I had men who didn’t support me when I ran, and I said ‘too bad. I’m going to win. And you’re going to wish you had supported me.’”

“Growing up on a farm, there were never ‘girl chores’ or ‘boy chores’, there was just work that needed to be done.”

-Rep. Kristi Noem

“We all agree in equality, but I don’t think government should put in mandates when it comes to equality, I think businesses should be the ones [making those decisions] on a free market system.”

“Part of my duty and role is to try to mentor young women to get involved in the process.  Sometimes I don’t think women think they can do it all, and I’m here to say you can do it all.”

-Rep. Mimi Walters
