Dr. Phil Roe: These are first class people getting second class care

Obamacare is the federal government’s attempt to “fix” health care –and it failed. House Republicans are on a rescue mission with our American Health Care Act, our plan to repeal and replace Obamacare with a 21st Century health care system that puts the American people — not the government — in control. The American Health Care Act is available to read at READTHEBILL.gop.

Right now, House Republicans are taking this repeal and replace effort through a step-by-step, regular order process. As one of those steps, this morning House committees begin markup of our legislation to repeal Obamacare.

Ahead of the committee hearings, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) joined a press conference this morning on Capitol Hill to share why his experience as a doctor leads him to support the House’s effort to repeal Obamacare. Dr. Roe is co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus and one of the leading conservative voices in favor of the American Health Care Act. He’s consistently played a key role in House Republicans’ repeal and replace efforts, previously authoring the Republican Study Committee replacement bill and leading the Health Care Task Force. With 46 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Roe kids that he’s “been a doctor almost as long as Speaker Ryan has been alive.” Kidding aside, he pointed to a number of conservative wins:

In Dr. Roe’s home state of Tennessee, specifically in the Northeast Appalachia region he represents, families are struggling. He notes that there are more than 160,000 people who chose to pay a penalty for not having health insurance — because that’d be cheaper than the out-of-pocket expenses they’d have with health insurance: “These are first class people getting second class care.” Our plan eliminates the individual mandate, and makes it easier for people to buy plans they want at prices they can afford.

Dr. Roe said, “we’re going to keep our word and repeal [Obamacare,] this flawed law, so we can put patients and doctors back in charge of their health care. …we have the opportunity to provide health insurance coverage for every American. And ladies and gentlemen, that is the noble thing to do.”
