The Speaker is clearly is feeling the heat.
In her impeachment press conference this morning, she tried to distract from her party’s effort to overturn the results of the 2016 election to talk about lower prescription drug costs.
The problem: she’s the only person standing in the way of lowering these costs.
Earlier this year, the House Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously approved bipartisan legislation to reduce the high cost of prescription drugs. Unfortunately for the American people, the Speaker scuttled these proposals by inserting partisan poison pills, putting politics before the needs of millions of Americans:
- The Washington Post: “Democrats are putting a political pothole in the way of bipartisan drug pricing bills”
- STAT News: “In Washington, a partisan approach to lowering drug costs leaves Democrats doubting their own party leadership”
On top of that, her latest proposal is just a left-wing list of priorities that lays the groundwork for a one-size-fits-all government takeover of health care, and is not a serious plan that could pass.
If the Speaker wants to work on lowering prescription drug costs in a bipartisan way, House Republicans are waiting at the table. However, it’s clear that’s not a priority for her, and her party’s only focus is on ignoring the facts to undo the results of the last presidential election, instead of solving problems for the American people.
