Defund Police
The Democrats continue to urge defunding and dismantling of police departments across the United States. This movement is not relegated to the political fringe, and a number of prominent Democrats, including Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have expressed support for these policies that would threaten the safety of millions:
As protesters demand police reform, a proposal is gaining steam: reducing the #NYPD’s budget.
Rep. @AOC expressed support for that in a NY1 debate. https://t.co/vo8uqhoSZR. #NY1Politics pic.twitter.com/bQK2glBPgk

When we say #DefundPolice, what we mean is people are dying and we need to invest in people's livelihoods instead.
EXAMPLE: Detroit spent $294 million on police last year, and $9 million on health.
This is systemic oppression in numbers. pic.twitter.com/oPe0GD3D6p

The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform.
It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.
Thank you to @MplsWard3 for your leadership on this! https://t.co/AQfHM5M6eR

Democrats are even taking policy steps to implement this practice. In Minneapolis, after pressure from protesters, a veto-proof majority of the City Council has endorsed disbanding the police department in the city.
- The New York Times: “Majority of the Minneapolis City Council pledges to dismantle the Police Department.”
- Fox9: “Veto-proof majority of Minneapolis City Council announces support for dismantling MPD”

In an interview on CNN this morning, the Minneapolis City Council President was asked a basic question about the consequences of dismantling the police department:
CAMEROTA: "What if in the middle of the night my home is broken into. Who do I call?"
BENDER: "Yes, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors. And I know — and myself, too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege." pic.twitter.com/WhubQ9yJIf

As President Trump has expressed, defunding, dismantling, or abolishing police departments, restricting their capabilities, or allowing the federal government to get involved in trying to manage local law enforcement would all have negative ramifications. The fact that Democrats continue to embrace this dangerous movement shows how radical and beholden to the extreme left they are.
