Yesterday, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal joined The Washington Post for their “Race in America” discussion series. When asked about defunding the police, Rep. Jayapal took a swipe at the law enforcement community saying, “law enforcement as a whole has a culture of brutality”:
REP. PRAMILA JAYAPAL: Well, I think that there are many, obviously, many ways to look at that, but I think what the protestors I have spoken to and the Movement for Black Lives leaders have talked about is exactly what we have been saying, which is that law enforcement as a whole has a culture of brutality that you cannot deny if you look at all of these incidents.
This attack on those who protect our communities comes after other progressive House Democrats formally backed “The Breathe Act” last week. Their bill, much like the radical Green New Deal, is full of far-left ideas like defunding the police, eliminating all federal prisons, and abolishing ICE. Their party’s continued embrace of this reckless movement is dangerous and threatens the safety of the country.
