For his birthday, all he wanted was to see 21st Century Cures become law. Max got his wish.
For Max — and for the millions of other Americans facing a disease without a cure — that moment brought with it a renewed hope. We will look back on this as a turning point in medical research.
As I share in the video above, Max’s story is personal to me, too. I know how it feels to be told that your child’s life is going to be a little different than you dreamed. There are unknowns and challenges. But when the opportunity arises for a bold path forward, we need to seize it.
Cures is a game-changer, and its impact can be felt in the people who made it possible – the patients, the advocates, the researchers who live and breathe discovery. I think back to the meetings I had with organizations in Eastern Washington. The hope they felt was palpable, and it motivated me to want to help make this a reality. I am so grateful for Chairman Upton’s leadership on this bill, and for the work of our House Republicans who listened and acted. I cannot wait to see the discovery the future holds.
