After the horrific attack on an Orlando nightclub over the weekend, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, shared his take on the safety of the American people during a press conference today on Capitol Hill.

As he joined in offering condolences to the survivors and loved ones impacted by the senseless violence, Chairman McCaul touched on the heightened frequency of these attacks. “All too often,” he said, “we’re seeing these events happen – Boston, Fort Hood, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, and now this event. The homeland is under attack.”

In his role as Chairman, McCaul plans to investigate the shooter and his connections to prevent a situation like this from happening in the future: “There are flags in this case that we’ll be examining under our oversight responsibilities….[the shooter’s] connections are all very concerning to us. It’s something that we’ll be taking a closer look at.”

“We can’t stop them all,” McCaul concluded. “We’ve arrested 85 ISIS followers in this country. We’ve had 75 plots against the west. We’ve stopped many of these. It’s the one that you don’t know about that keeps you up at night. This one certainly kept us up at night. And I pray that we don’t have any more in this country.”
