Chair McMorris Rodgers, Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:
“We’ve all just returned from being home in our districts all across the country – and whether it was California or Ohio or Kansas or Washington, we’ve come back with an even greater desire to make life better for the people back at home. When I was back home in Eastern Washington, I spent some time doing something that holds a very special place in my heart: I put on my old uniform and managed the same McDonald’s Drive-Thru up in Colville, WA where I worked to pay my way through college all those years ago. And when I was there, I talked with so many McDonald’s employees – some young students; others moms and dads trying to make ends meet – and if there’s one thing they want from this Washington, it’s solutions!
“They want solutions that lower their costs and put more money back in their pockets. They want solutions that help pay the bills. And they want solutions that expand their careers and help them support their families. But right now they’re seeing the opposite. They’re seeing bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. grow a top-down economy with outdated regulations, taxes, and mandates that fails to deliver what it promises. We are advancing solutions to grow our local economies from the bottom up with more good-paying jobs to bring people greater opportunities.
“In the next two weeks, we will send the Senate both a jobs and energy package that will help people all across the country get back to work and lower their costs at home. For those at McDonald’s up in Colville, and for the millions of Americans trying to make ends meet, we hope the Senate will join us. Let’s work together to advance real solutions.”
