Chair McMorris Rodgers, Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:

“The message right now is simple: the American people are struggling. They’re struggling where it hurts the most: in the unemployment lines, at the gas pump, in the doctor’s office, and at home. They’re struggling to find new jobs, support their families, and make ends meet. In fact, according to a recent poll, nearly 1 in 3 Americans say their financial situation has gotten worse in the past year. We want to make their situations better.

“We’ve tried the President’s top-down approach to grow the economy. It doesn’t work. In fact, it’s made things worse. That’s why we’re advancing a bottom-up approach that grows our economy and puts more money back into people’s hands. We’re meeting our 21st-century economy with 21st-century solutions.

“This week we’re sending two bills filled with dozens of solutions to help create and lower costs at home that will make life better for all Americans. When 62% of people in this country say the cost of basic household items — like gas and groceries — has strained their finances, we need to listen. We ask the President and Senate to do the same. To listen to the American people and work with us to solve problems and make their lives better.”
