On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, the House is scheduled to consider S. 307, under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. S. 307 was introduced by Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D-WV) on February 8, 2011, and was referred to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. On February 17, 2011, the bill was approved in the Senate by Unanimous Consent. The bill was sent to the House and referred to the Committee on Transportation and ordered reported by voice vote on March 16, 2011.
S. 307 would designate the Federal building and United States courthouse located at 217 West King Street, Martinsburg, West Virginia, as the “W. Craig Broadwater Federal Building and United States Courthouse.”
According to the Biographical Directory of Federal Judges, W. Craig Broadwater was a federal District Court judge serving the Northern District of West Virginia as judge from 1996 to his death in 2006. Prior to his nomination in 1996 by President Clinton, Judge Broadwater served his country as a U.S. Army Lieutenant from 1972-1982 and served as a circuit court judge in the First Judicial Circuit of West Virginia from 1983-1996.
According to CBO, this legislation “would have no significant impact on the federal budget and would not affect direct spending or revenues.”
