H.Res. XX is being considered on the floor under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Representative Joseph Crowley (D-NY) on January 26, 2009.
H.Res. XX resolves that the House of Representatives:
On January 15, 2009, Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger III piloted US Airways Flight 1549 from New York’s LaGuardia airport en route to Charlotte, North Carolina. Shortly after takeoff, the place experienced difficulties. Reacting quickly, Mr. Sullenberger landed the plane in the Hudson River. This maneuver saved the lives of 155 people onboard the flight, as well as avoided any ground casualties or property damage in the densely populated New York City metropolitan area.
Mr. Sullenberger has almost 40 years of flying experience, including seven years in the United States Air Force and nearly 30 years with US Airways. Sullenberger is a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
