H.R. 955 is being considered on the floor under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Representative Jay Inslee (D-WA) on February 10, 2009.
H.R. 955 designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 10355 Northeast Valley Road in Rollingbay, Washington, as the "John 'Bud' Hawk Post Office."
John "Bud" Hawk was a Medal of Honor recipient who served in the 90th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. Sergeant Hawk earned the honor for his service near Chambois, France, on August 20, 1944. On that day, Hawk manned a light machinegun against enemy infantry and tanks when an artillery shell wounded his right thigh. Sergeant Hawk secured a bazooka and forced the enemy armor to retreat and then organized two machinegun squads. Eventually, due to Seargent Hawk's leadership while being wounded, the Germans surrendered and 500 were taken prisoner.
Hawk was born in San Francisco and resided in Washington State during his adult life.
