Bill Summary

H.R. 5669 would authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to convey federally owned land that was once the location of the National Animal Disease Center to the City of Ames, Iowa, for an amount equal to fair market value.

Property Conveyance:

The city of Ames, Iowa may acquire, and pay, to the Secretary of Agriculture an amount equal to fair market value of approximately 44 acres of federally owned land comprising part of the National Animal Disease Center, located on 13th street in Ames, Iowa.

All proceeds from the sale of the federally owned land, to the Secretary of Agriculture, should be deposited into the Treasury of the United States to be credited to the appropriation of the Agriculture Research Service.  These funds should be available to the Secretary until expended.

Background

The City of Ames, Iowa, is seeking to purchase the federally owned land at 13th street for the purposes of building a new drinking water facility.
