H.Res. 5655 is expected to be considered on the floor of the House on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, under a motion to suspend the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) June 30, 2010.
H.R. 5565 would designate the Little River Branch facility of the United States Postal Service located at 140 NE 84th Street in Miami, Florida, as the “Jesse J. McCrary, Jr. Post Office”.
Jesse J. McCrary, Jr. was an attorney from Florida. A civil rights activist, McCrary entered state politics and served as Secretary of State, becoming the first Black American member of the Florida Cabinet since the end of Reconstruction.
According to CBO, any costs related to new post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
