Floor Situation

On June 17, 2014, the House will consider H.R. 43, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 14 Red River Avenue North in Cold Spring, Minnesota, as the ‘‘Officer Tommy Decker Memorial Post Office,’’ under a suspension of the rules.  H.R. 43 was introduced on January 3, 2013 by Rep. Michele Bachmann (D-MN) and referred to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which ordered the bill reported, as amended, by unanimous consent.

Bill Summary

H.R. 43 designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 14 Red River Avenue North in Cold Spring, Minnesota, as the ‘‘Officer Tommy Decker Memorial Post Office.’’

Background

Officer Tommy Decker served for six years with distinction as a member of the Cold Springs, Minnesota police department.[1]  In only six years, Officer Decker received no less than six commendations and letters of appreciation.  On November 29, 2012, at the age of 31, Office Decker was killed in the line of duty.[2]  He is survived by his wife and four children.
