On Monday, February 29, 2016, 2016, the House will consider H.R. 4238, To amend the Department of Energy Organization Act and the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976 to modernize terms relating to minorities, under suspension of the rules. H.R. 4238 was introduced on December 11, 2015 by Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) and was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, which ordered the bill reported by voice vote on February 25, 2016.
H.R. 4238 amends the Department of Energy Organization Act to revise the definition of “minority” to mean any U.S. citizen who is an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Native American, or Alaska Native.
The Department of Energy Organization Act currently uses terms that are generally accepted to politically incorrect when referring to minority populations.
