CONGRESSWOMAN ELISE STEFANIK
CHAIRWOMAN
On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3772, under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. H.R. 3772 was introduced by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) on January 13, 2012, and referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
This legislation would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 150 South Union Street in Canton, Mississippi, as the “First Sergeant Landres Cheeks Post Office Building.”
First Sergeant Landres Cheeks served in the United States Army Medical Corps for 30 years participating in World War II (Germany and France) and the Vietnam War, and also served as a volunteer crossing guard for Holy Child Jesus School in Canton, MS, for more than 25 years.
According to CBO, any costs related to new post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
