On June 17, 2014, the House will consider H.R. 3472, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 13127 Broadway Street in Alden, New York, as the “Sergeant Brett E. Gornewicz Memorial Post Office,” under a suspension of the rules. H.R. 3472 was introduced on November 13, 2013 by Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) and referred to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which ordered the bill reported by unanimous consent.
H.R. 3472 designates the U.S. Postal Service facility located at 13127 Broadway Street in Alden, New York, as the “Sergeant Brett E. Gornewicz Memorial Post Office.”
Sergeant Gornewicz enlisted in the Army Reserves in 2006 and served in Iraq from 2007 to 2008.[1] He was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for saving a life during a firefight during his second deployment to Afghanistan.[2] Sergeant Gornewicz was killed on November 3, 2012 in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, by an IED when performing route-clearing duties with fellow soldiers.[3]
