This legislation would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1421 Veterans Memorial Drive in Abbeville, Louisiana, as the “Sergeant Richard Franklin Abshire Post Office Building.”

Background

Sergeant Richard Franklin Abshire was a member of the Marine Corp who served in the Vietnam War, and was killed in active duty on May 2, 1968.  Sergeant Abshire was the highest decorated veteran from the Vietnam War from Vermilion Parish, LA.

According to CBO, any costs related to new post office designations, which include the cost of changing the name on the building, signs, and maps, are not significant.
