On Monday, November 14, 2011, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 2422 under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. H.R. 2422 was introduced by Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) on July 6, 2011, and was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which reported the bill by unanimous consent on November 3, 2011.
H.R. 2422 would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 45 Bay Street, Suite 2, in Staten Island, New York, as the “Sergeant Angel Mendez Post Office.”
Sergeant Angel Mendez was a United States Marine who served in the Vietnam War. In 1967, Mendez was killed during a firefight after saving the life of his platoon commander. He was awarded the Navy Cross – the Marine Corps’ second highest award for personal bravery.
A CBO cost estimate for H.R. 2422 was not available as of press time.
