On Thursday, September 24, 2015, the House will consider H.R. 1884, to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 206 West Commercial Street in East Rochester, New York, as the “Officer Daryl R. Pierson Memorial Post Office Building,” under suspension of the rules. H.R. 1884 was introduced on April 16, 2015 by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which ordered it to be reported by unanimous consent on July 22, 2015.

Background

Officer Daryl R. Pierson was 32 years old when he was shot and killed while serving in the line of duty for the Rochester Police Department on September 3, 2014. Officer Pierson was in the midst of an on-foot pursuit when he was shot by an armed robber.[1] Officer Pierson was a veteran and served with the Rochester Police Department for eight years. He is survived by his wife and two young children.[2]
