Floor Situation

On June 17, 2014, the House will consider H.R. 1671, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 6937 Village Parkway in Dublin, California, as the “James ‘Jim’ Kohnen Post Office,” under a suspension of the rules.  H.R. 1671 was introduced on April 23, 2013 by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and referred to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which ordered the bill reported by unanimous consent.

Bill Summary

H.R. 1671 designates the U.S. Postal Service facility located at 6937 Village Parkway in Dublin, California, as the “James ‘Jim’ Kohnen Post Office.”

Background

Dr. Kohnen served for 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and as a Colonel in the Army Corps or Engineers.  “Over the course of his lifetime he earned six degrees, including graduating from the U.S. Army War College, the Air War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.”[1]  He also volunteered in a number of service organizations throughout the East Bay of California.  Dr. Kohnen passed away on May 29, 2012.
