On Monday, May 2, 2011, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 1423, under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. H.R. 1423 was introduced by Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) on March 7, 2011, and was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which reported the bill by unanimous consent on April 13, 2011.
H.R. 1423 would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 115 4th Avenue Southwest in Ardmore, Oklahoma, as the “Specialist Micheal E. Phillips Post Office.”
According to the Tulsa World, Army Spc. Michael Phillips, 19, was killed on February 24, 2008, when his Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. Phillips joined the Army after graduating from Ardmore High School in 2006 and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
