Bill Summary

The bill would extend the termination date for the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission from May 30, 2011, to December 31, 2011.  In addition, the bill would extend the date on which the Commission is required to issue its final report from April 30, 2011, to November 30, 2011.

Background

On March 9, 2009, the House passed H.R. 131 in the 110th Congress, the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act.  The bill established the “Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission” in order to plan, prepare, and carry out activities to honor and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Reagan.  The Commission was also required to provide assistance and advice to other Federal, State, and local governmental agencies, as well as civic groups that plan to carry out activities to mark the occasion.  Under the bill, the Commission was required to report to the President and Congress annually on all revenues and expenditures, and include a list of all gifts given to the commission valued at more than $250 as well as the name of the donor.  Lastly, the Commission was also required to issue a final report to the President and Congress, detailing a summary of event and a final accounting of receipts and expenditures by April 30, 2011.  The Commission was to be terminated after it submitted its final report, but no later than May 30, 2011.  H.R. 1308 would extend the duration of the Commission and provide additional time for the Commission to make its final report.
