On Tuesday, July 30, 2013 the House will consider H.R. 1300, a bill to Amend the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956 to reauthorize the Volunteer Programs and Community Partnerships for the Benefit of National Wildlife Refuges, under a suspension of the rules. The bill was introduced on March 20, 2013 by Rep. Jon Runyan (R-NJ) and referred to the Committee on Natural Resources, which ordered the bill reported by unanimous consent.
H.R. 1300 amends the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956 to extend through FY2017 the authorization of appropriations for volunteer services conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; community partnership projects for national wildlife refuges; and refuge education programs.
The National Wildlife Refuge System contains approximately 150 million acres of federal lands dedicated to the conservation of fish and wildlife. There are 562 Refuges located in each of the 50 states and the five territories of the U.S.
The CBO estimates that if the appropriation continues at authorized levels, implementing the legislation would cost $6 million over the 2015-2017 period.[1]
