CONGRESSWOMAN ELISE STEFANIK
CHAIRWOMAN
The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 1280 on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. H.R. 1280 was introduced on March 3, 2009, by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and referred to the Committee on Natural Resources, which took no official action.
H.R. 1280 amends Patent Number 61-2000-0007, issued by the Secretary of the Interior to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, Chippewa County, Michigan, to reflect a change in the plans for the use of the facilities of the Shipwreck Museum and Lighthouse.
The land grant patent language was originally included in the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act, 1997 (PL 104-208). The original management plan for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society originated in 1992. In 2002, a new management plan was developed to comply with environmental concerns, and this legislation makes a technical change in order to allow the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society to continue operations.
A CBO score for H.R. 1280 was not yet available at press time.
