Chair McMorris Rodgers, Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:

“Good morning! As we advance an ‘Opportunity Economy’ for everyone in this country, I want to reflect on what makes Americans so exceptional. It’s that spirit of generosity – one that can be found in homes and schools and hospitals and hearts across America. Yesterday, a few of us visited DC Central Kitchen right here in the the heart of our nation’s capitol – and we met the volunteers who, over the course of 25 years, have prepared nearly 30 million meals for low-income and at-risk neighbors. And this is just one of the many organizations across the country that embodies that spirit of generosity – including those back home in Eastern Washington.

“Over 95 percent of American households give to charity – and that number continues to rise. That’s why we’re advancing solutions to encourage the charitable giving that improves so many people’s lives. This week we’re passing legislation to simplify our tax code, to promote charitable contributions, and to give tax certainty to people in all corners of this country. Not only will we foster America’s spirit of generosity, but we will continue to make life better for people in every corner of the country.”
