2019 Dems, meet 2018 Dems

Democrats spent the weekend doing the same thing they’ve done for the past 32 days: refusing to compromise due to their obsession with telling the president no.

President Trump’s latest offer to secure the border and end the shutdown included relief for 700,000 DACA recipients – something top House Democrats have fallen over themselves to support in the past:

  • January 16, 2018: Steny Hoyer said that protections for so-called Dreamers were a requirement if any government funding bill were to get Democratic votes.
  • February 7, 2018: Nancy Pelosi took over the House floor for eight hours to make the longest continuous speech on record. She spent those eight hours urging Republicans to vote on a DACA fix similar to the one she dismissed on Saturday.
  • September 5, 2018: Ben Ray Lujan sent a press release stating “President Trump has left over 800,000 Dreamers to live in fear for over a year,” and called it unacceptable…

But when given the opportunity to help these individuals have more certainty, those same Democrats rejected the President’s proposal before they even heard the details…

Bottom line: Democrats have no interest in providing relief to DACA recipients, securing the border, or even participating in negotiations. Their only objective is keeping their base happy by refusing to work with the administration, no matter the collateral damage.
