2017 in Review: The People’s House Put Your Priorities First

McMorris Rodgers: “You Sent us Here to Focus on the Big Things, on the Issues that Matter Most to You.”

From keeping our promise to fix the tax code, to rebuilding our military, to reining in Obama-era red tape, the People’s House has been getting things done for Americans and their families. In a new video recapping major legislative accomplishments, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) highlights how the House focused on delivering real results to the American people in 2017. Key Excerpts:

On the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act: “We seized the once-in-a-generation opportunity to enact real tax reform which our country hadn’t seen in more than 30 years. Our tax reform plan was written with families in mind.

“Across the board we are lowering rates and increasing the standard deduction to allow you to keep more of your hard-earned paycheck. We are also eliminating special interest loopholes and simplifying the tax code, saving you time and money.”

On Helping Individuals with Disabilities Reach Their Full Potential: “[The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act] carries on the legacy of the ABLE Act. For families who may have saved for their son or daughter’s college tuition, our plan allows these families to roll over those funds. I’m also excited about the ABLE to Work Act provision that would allow individuals with an ABLE account to explore the possibilities of the workforce.”

On Main Street Jobs & Economic Security: “President Trump has signed more than a dozen jobs bills that repeal Obama-era red tape and put power back in the hands of our local job creators, small businesses, and communities. This better regulatory environment has already brought companies back home.”

On Patient-Centered Health Care: “[The People’s House has] done a lot this year to build a better health care future for you and your families, including ending rampant medical malpractice lawsuits that drive up the cost of health care, restoring competition through association health plans for small businesses, [and] reauthorizing the critically important Children’s Health Insurance Program.

“In the House, we passed legislation to repeal Obamacare, and replaced it with a system that protects people with pre-existing conditions. We’re going to continue our work to get it right.”

On Rebuilding our Military: “This year, we added thousands of additional military personnel and provided service members with their biggest pay raise in eight years. When President Trump signed our National Defense Authorization Act, he signed into law a bill that strengthens the U.S. military, modernizes equipment, and restores readiness.”

On Staying Focused on the People’s Priorities: “We’ve been focused on delivering more peace of mind for families, such as adding more resources to fight the opioid epidemic, sweeping reforms to end human trafficking, protecting life with a permanent Hyde amendment, and delivering affordable and reliable energy. We’ve also increased resources for border security.

“We will stay focused on your priorities. Trusting in God and in each other, we will succeed. Our future is bright. Happy New Year, everyone – see you in 2018!”
