- During the 80s & 90s, Chairmen Volcker & Greenspan conducted monetary policy as if the Fed had a single mandate for price stability.
- Fed failed its role as lender of last resort between 1929 & 1933, leading to unnecessary bank failures, intensifying the Great Depression.
- While the early Fed was successful in providing an elastic currency, eliminating the frequent, seasonal financial panics of the 19th century
