Rep. Kevin Brady Grills Obama Labor Dept. Official over Stalled Jobless Program Reforms 4-25-12
April 25, 2012
Today in a House Ways & Means Subcommittee hearing, senior committee member Congressman Kevin Brady grilling a top Department of Labor official on how the Obama administration is delaying unemployment reforms passed by Congress and signed by President Obama. Brady questioned Jane Oates, DOL Assistant Secretary for the Employment and Training Administration, who used to work for the late Senator Ted Kennedy and former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine. Oates heads the DOL office responsible for unemployment insurance (UI) and other employment and training programs, including the waiver program that Texas is seeking to utilize to get people off unemployment checks and back to collecting paychecks. However, the administration prefers to delay that waiver program with unnecessary 'guidance.' The Executive Director of the Texas Workforce Commission also testified during today's hearing.
