Mica Holds GSA Accountable at Hearing

April 17, 2012
Chairman Mica holds GSA accountable at a Congressional Hearing concerning gross mismanagement at that agency. The hearing, "GSA's Squandering of Taxpayer Dollars: A Pattern of Mismanagement, Excess and Waste", took place on April 17, 2012 and follows the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's requesting detailed information from the GSA regarding significant but unexplained increases in the agency's budget in recent years. The agency continues to stonewall Congress in providing this information. When the GSA Inspector General (IG) released a report on April 2, 2012 revealing that GSA spent over $800,000 in 2010 on a lavish conference for bureaucrats in Las Vegas, the agency's reluctance to turn over budget information to the Committee was perhaps in part explained. Unfortunately, the revelations in the IG report are only the tip of the iceberg, and the Committee continues to dig into the outrageous and blatant waste of taxpayers' money by GSA.
