Greg Walden on Fox News: We need to get serious in Washington about reducing the deficit

MORO, Ore. — U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) appeared on Fox News' "Your World with Neil Cavuto" to discuss his plan to stop the Treasury from minting trillion dollar platinum coins to pay the federal government's bills.
Walden on the proposal to mint trillion dollars coins
"If it's that easy Neil let's just print 16 of them and say goodbye to our national debt. This is absurd and laughable. Think what ALCOA could do in their earnings if they could just start printing aluminum coins and say they are worth a trillion dollars. We need to get serious in Washington about reducing the deficit and runaway government spending."
Walden on addressing the spending problem in Washington, D.C.
"I wish we had a President that agreed there was a spending problem. Unfortunately he told the Speaker he doesn't think there is a spending problem. And the last thing we need is for the Treasury to mint a new coin made out of platinum that would weigh, by the way Neil, 44 million pounds if it was tied to the value of platinum like gold has to be tied. I mean it would sink the Titanic. Which is by the way what our country is facing. This is the kind of zaniness going on in D.C. that we have to draw attention to and stop."
