U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor made the following remarks on the House Floor regarding the Violence Against Women Act: "Our goal in strengthening the Violence Against Women Act is simple -- we want to help all women who are faced with violent, abusive and dangerous situations. "We want to make sure all women are safe and have access to the resources they need to protect themselves, their children and their families. We want them to know that somebody is there and willing to help. "And we want them to know that those who commit these horrendous crimes will be punished and not let go. That's why we feel so strongly about providing the proper support system and needed relief to thousands of victims and survivors so that they can get on with their lives. "For the past several months, we have worked hard in this House to build consensus and to put together the strongest bill possible to improve on that which came from the Senate."
