WHSV: U.S. Congressman Pumped Gas for Local Residents
April 25, 2012
Congressman Bob Goodlatte pumped gas Friday in Mount Crawford.
He met with people at the Shell Gas Station to hear their thoughts on gas prices and he said many people complain about the high prices and that they cannot always fill up.
People suggested drilling for oil offshore or creating the Keystone pipeline to lower prices.
Both of these are ideas that Goodlatte supports.
The congressman said the U.S. needs to find ways to not depend on foreign oil and he thinks that is the first step to lowering gas prices.
"I've introduced legislation in the Congress to allow for exploration of oil and natural gas off the coast of Virginia. President Obama has been blocking that," said Goodlatte.
Goodlatte said the legislation was part of a larger energy package that passed in the House of Representatives.
It's now in the Senate.
