WVIR: Congressman Bob Goodlatte Discusses Energy Reform
March 20, 2012
Congressman Bob Goodlatte says it's time to get serious about energy reform, rather than simply wringing our hands over gas prices.
The 6th District Republican met with business owners and community leaders Monday in Staunton.
Goodlatte says the "oil cartel" of the Middle East and Africa hold energy consumers hostage by controlling prices. He says that won't change until North American nations fully tap into their own resources.
"If we'd started doing this five, six years ago when we had a big spike in oil prices and had continued on, we'd be in a much better position than we are today," he said.
Goodlatte says President Obama shares part of the blame for blocking offshore exploration in Virginia and blocking construction of the Keystone Pipeline.
