Honoring Zackery Wallick, Recipient of Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal
June 18, 2013
On June 18th, Congressman Gibbs honored Zackery Wallick on the House Floor for receiving the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the fifth highest award for his service. Zackery Zackery received this medal for putting himself in grave danger in order to protect a fellow wounded Marine in Afghanistan in August of 2010.
He was serving as a first team leader of a regimental combat team when a grenade was thrown at him and a fellow Marine by Taliban forces. Without hesitation, Zachery threw himself on the Marine closest to the explosion, shielding him from the blast. Thankfully, neither of the Marines were injured.
