COMMITTEE APPROVES NUNNELEE AMENDMENT TO PREVENT TAXPAYER FUNDING OF ABORTIONS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Appropriations Committee today approved an amendment offered by Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) that expands an existing prohibition that restricts the Federal Employees Health Benefits program from proving coverage for abortions to include multi-state health insurance programs administered by the federal government under ObamaCare.
"This committee has had a long history of bipartisan agreement of recognizing that taxpayers should not be asked to pay for elective abortion, nor should the taxpayers be paying for health plans that are administering elective abortions," Nunnelee stated in his opening remarks.
At the close of debate over the amendment, Nunnelee summed up his position by saying, "This amendment simply says that we will not allow dollars, taken by force from the paychecks of hardworking taxpayers, and have those dollars be used to fund administrative expenses for plans that pay for abortions." The amendment passed, 28 to 20.
