Smith Questions IRS Officials About Political Targeting

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) took part in a House Committee on Ways and Means hearing focused on the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) practice of discriminating against applicants for tax-exempt status based on the political leanings of applicants on May 17, 2013. During the hearing, Smith asked Acting Commissioner of the IRS Steve Miller and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George to answer questions regarding the agency's use of donor lists solicited from political organizations, and to explain what safeguards the agency had in place to prevent political abuse.
