WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) issued the following statement today regarding the latest unemployment report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“It is always good news for our country when more Americans return to work. Unfortunately, the reason we aren’t recovering faster or seeing the kind of job growth that should be occurring is because the president’s policies are standing in the way. America could be doing so much better right now if not for the blind hostility of this administration toward the pro-growth legislation of House Republicans.
“With unemployment above 8 percent for over three straight years – and now at 11.3 percent when we count those who have given up looking for work – the adoption of the House Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators has never been more crucial. During the last three years of the Obama economy nearly one million people have lost their job, half of all Americans are now classified as either low income or living in poverty, the price of gasoline has doubled, and our national debt has increased by $5 trillion.
“While the president is happy to attack our solutions with divisive partisan swipes like he displayed this week, he has failed to offer any real leadership or new ideas of his own. Whether it’s his continued refusal to support the Keystone energy pipeline or his total failure to address our debt crisis, the president’s policies are the root cause of our anemic recovery and the American people deserve better.”
