Pence Applauds Introduction of GOP "Savings Recovery Act"

"The 'Savings Recovery Act' is another example of House Republicans' commitment to being the party of better solutions."

APRIL 22, 2009

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, made the following statement today in response to the introduction of the "Savings Recovery Act" by Republican Leader John Boehner:

"American families are tired of watching a lifetime of savings and investments fall victim to this economic crisis.  It is important that government policies not make the pain even worse.  However, Democrats are pursuing policies that weaken investment opportunities, and some suggest nationalizing personal 401(k) retirement accounts. This is a dangerous direction for our country and the American people deserve better.

"The ‘Savings Recovery Act' is another example of House Republicans' commitment to being the party of better solutions.  The ‘Savings Recovery Act' will help rebuild families' retirement and college savings, and bring desperately needed tax relief to investors and our seniors.  In addition, the ‘Savings Recovery Act' will ensure workers retain control over their hard-earned 401(k), not the federal government.  I commend Leader Boehner and the members of the House GOP Savings Recovery Solutions Group for their leadership on this important issue."
