Remarks as Prepared for Delivery:

“In his New York speech last week, President Obama said: ‘We don’t need a ‘can’t do’ spirit; we need a ‘can do’ spirit!’ House Republicans could not agree more – which is why we’ve worked for so long to advance solutions that make people’s lives better. But Mr. President, now it’s time for you to join us.

“We can do a better job helping people bring home paychecks so they can afford their bills at the end of the month. We can do a better job giving parents financial security so they can provide for their children’s futures. And we can do a better job creating opportunities so more Americans can get back into the workforce. Because no matter where I go or whom I meet – whether it’s a young college graduate flipping burgers at McDonald’s, or a veteran in Spokane trying to get a job, or a single mom working two jobs to help support her young kids, Americans all want one thing: they want opportunity.

“But right now – when 1 out of every 5 Americans says unemployment is the biggest issue facing this country, the opportunity gap is only getting wider. That’s why we will continue our fight to get people back to work, to help Americans bring home better paychecks, and to provide greater opportunity for every single person in this country. We’ve never lost sight of that ‘can-do’ spirit, Mr. President – we know we can do better and the American people know we can do better – so let’s work together – the White House and Congress – and make it happen.”
