- Alternated between serving as a bodyguard for Osama bin Laden and participating in combat against the Northern Alliance.
- Osama bin Laden selected Attash to become a hijacker in the 9/11 operation but he was arrested in Yemen in April 2001 while attempting to obtain a U.S. visa.
- Served as a key al-Qaeda operative from 1998 until his capture in 2003.
- Osama bin Laden asked Attash to select two-dozen operatives for speicla training at the Mes Ainak camp in Afghanistan which trained one of the suicide bombers in the USS Cole bombing and two of the 9/11 hijackers.
