House GOP Voice Support for the American Energy Act

Rep. Dave Camp:

The consistent spike in gas prices each summer is hard enough for families, they don’t need a plan that is going to tax them and cause their energy bills to skyrocket year round – which, as the President admitted, is what the Democrat plan does. There is a better solution to make America energy independent and it is through investing in alternative energy,” Camp said. “I support the American Energy Act because this is a well thought out, comprehensive plan that will lower energy costs and create alternative energy manufacturing jobs here in America.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann:

"Especially with a struggling economy, the last thing Washington should do is restrict the development of cheaper energy and increase the financial burden on America’s families. The Democrats’ cap-and-trade energy tax will do both. We need a better plan, and that’s what Republicans put forth today," said Bachmann. "The American Energy Act is an ‘all-of-the-above’ solution that offers more affordable energy, more well-paying jobs, American energy independence, and a cleaner environment."

Rep. Lee Terry:

The American people deserve better and thanks to House Republicans we have a better solution on the table.  Today I joined my colleagues in introducing a comprehensive energy solutions plan.  This plan will increase our domestic supply of energy by lifting current restrictions on ANWR, the Outer Continental Shelf and oil shale in the mountains.  Our plan will bring dozens of new nuclear reactors online over the next 20 years, provide funding for energy programs like solar, wind and geothermal and makes permanent tax credits for the production of renewable energy. And no, it does not include any new taxes.

"Oil is once again going up, which means gas prices are going to go up. Some of my friends in Congress want to add to those costs with an energy tax disguised as 'cap-and-trade.'

Instead of adding to your heating, cooling, and gasoline bills, I want our nation to increase production of American energy, such as clean-coal, nuclear, wind, solar, renewables, and off-shore oil and gas.

We can make our nation less dependent on foreign energy at the same time we encourage new technologies that are environmentally friendly.  We do not need to punish the American people with an energy tax."
