Today, President Obama held a joint press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron, in which he was asked about the recent IRS allegations and the September 11 Benghazi terrorist attack. His responses reveal the Administration’s information gap – and leave us with more questions than answers.
The President claims he learned on Friday, May 10 that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, yet the New York Times had reported these complaints over a year ago. For a charge as Nixonian as this, an allegation of this nature would most likely have been brought to the President’s attention and addressed immediately.
It is similarly unlikely that President Obama was not promptly informed that the assault in Benghazi was indeed a terrorist attack. In fact, Deputy Chief of Mission Gregory Hicks testified last week that he told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the American Consulate was ‘under attack’ that night.
It has been a tumultuous few weeks for the Obama Administration and if his press conference today was any indication, it’s only going to get tougher. The missing information in the President’s responses today leaves us with too many questions – at a time when the American people demand and deserve answers.
