Today, House Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (TX) published, "Barack Obama should emulate Ronald Reagan in deeds" as we commemorated the President's 100th birthday on Sunday.  Rep. Hensarling traces the spending path that has led America into $14 trillion of debt and 21 straight months of unemployment at 9 percent or higher.  Outlining the primary cause for America's economic troubles...spending, the Chairman turns toward President Ronald Reagan's "advice but also the voice of the American people."

The bottom line is this: Big Government spending was tried, and Big Government spending failed.

If the president wants to see a real plan for the future, he should look at the actions taken by House Republicans during our first month in the majority. We voted to reduce the deficit by $700 billion and to reduce spending by more than $2.6 trillion by repealing Obamacare.

We voted to roll back spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels. We banned congressional earmarks and cut the House budget by 5 percent. We voted to save $617 million by ending taxpayer funding for candidates and conventions.

Most important, we’ve changed the culture of the House. Whereas the Democrats held weekly votes to create more government programs and increase spending, Republicans now hold weekly “YouCut” votes to eliminate wasteful programs and cut spending.

And that’s just the beginning.
