Here on Capitol Hill, Members of Congress work hard for the people. Many of them keep that discipline in other aspects of their lives as well. So, which House Republicans participate in the Capitol Hill P90X challenge? Politico's "Click" published a piece today covering the recent national fitness craze:
Tony Horton, the creator of Capitol Hill workout craze P90X, is responsible for changing more than the physiques of a bunch of dedicated congressmen: Thanks to him, the congressional gym recently got a new look, too.
“When [members] started the workout, they were screwing in a pull-up bar in a doorway, and they put a TV [with the workout tape on] in the hall,” Horton told POLITICO. “People thought they were crazy.”
Of course, in that era, there were only two members — Reps. Paul Ryan and Heath Shuler — on the P90X bandwagon. Now, thanks to word of mouth and a little remodeling, 23 members of Congress are doing the strength-building workout in the Hill gym.
“They have several pull-up bars along the basketball court, and they project the tapes on the wall,” Horton said. He noticed the equipment changes last April when he led a workout on the Hill that included Reps. Ryan, Shuler, Anthony Weiner, Jesse Jackson Jr., Kevin McCarthy, Eric Cantor, Mike Doyle, Peter DeFazio and Bill Shuster. (Maybe Weiner was using it to get in shape for his wedding day?)
